After spending sometime in Hangzhou, I took the train to Nanjing. Nanjing is only 1 hour away from Hangzhou so it was a quick trip there.
I really had no goals for this day, I was just spending some time with my Chinese friends. We mostly walked around the lake at the train station and walked in some of the malls.
The weather was really good so I enjoyed walking around the lake with my friends. Chinese cities are so densely populated that evening this one lake and park has so much to see and do. I guess we walked around the lake for 4 or 5 hours and I doubt we covered more than 20% of it.
In most big cities in China, if you go to a public park on Sundays, you will often find a scene like this, with parents looking for a marriage partner for their children. They write up pamphlets with their Children’s information and go to the park, hoping to find someone suitable for their Child. The one child policy has had a devastating effect on the male/female ratio in China. In big cities, you can clearly see this imbalance as boys outnumber girls significantly. During my day at the park, I saw a huge amount of men walking around the park, clearly only looking to meet some women.
One of the many groups of men, going on a hunt, looking for girlfriends and wives. I would guess this park would not be very safe a night for women though. As my female friend said to me, these men look very “Hungry for women”.
After we watched the sunset, it was time to head back home. Nanjing is close to my hometown, so I can basically visit anytime I want. I have always enjoyed my time here, and the city is so huge, that I will never run out of places to explore.
